What is the intent of the curriculum at Aughton St Michael’s CE Primary School?

 

OVERALL

 

To create independent and resilient learners who enquire into the world around them.

 

CORE SUBJECTS

 

MATHS

 

To create independent and resilient mathematicians who can use reasoning to enquire into problems and use Maths to better understand the world around them.

 

WRITING

To create resilient writers who independently challenge themselves to utilise the skills and styles they have seen in a range of genres and enquiry in the intent of author’s vocabulary and technique and how it impacts on the reader.

 

 

READING 

To create resilient readers who chose to read a range of challenging books independently, enquiring about the deeper meaning of the text and how it impacts on their understanding of the world around them.

 

SCIENCE

To create resilient scientists who enquire into how the world around them works through observations, questioning and investigations ensuring they develop their scientific knowledge in order to inform further enquiry. 

 

RE

To create independent and resilient learners who enquire into the religions of the world and the impact being a Christian has on it.

 

 

WIDER CURRICULUM

To create independent and resilient learners who can explore, develop and adapt ideas becoming proficient in art techniques; be inspired by and understand the work of great artists; and enquire about, evaluate and analyse creative works.

To create children who can independently use a range of technology - devices and software - safely to understand, interpret and enquire about the physical and digital world in which they live 

 

 

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

To create children who enquire into how items around them are made, can plan how they could be made, show determination and resilience to build them and then honestly and independently evaluate the final product. 

 

GEOGRAPHY

To create independent and resilient learners whose enquiry and geographical skills promote place knowledge and understanding of key physical and human geographical features.  

 

 

HISTORY 

To create independent and resilient learners who enquire into the past and consider the impact it has on their lives. 

 

 

MFL – SPANISH 

To create resilient learners who enquire into how a foreign language is structured and independently creates simple sentences that can be understood by others

 

MUSIC

To create independent and resilient learners who have experienced many genres of Music and are confident and competent in reading music and playing an instrument.

 

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

To create active children who enquire into how their body works and how they can develop their physical skills whilst have the drive and resilience to independently push themselves to achieve the best results they can.

 

PSHE

To create independent and resilient learners who can navigate their way through different social situations and have a strong sense of self. Children should have a clear sense of right and wrong and some understanding of theirs and others’ emotions.

 

 

FOREST SCHOOL

To create independent and resilient learners who understand how to maintain a forest area whilst using the resources that it offers. They should be confident and competent in a number of age appropriate skills, which they have developed across their time in Aughton St. Michaels.
