A trip to The British Commercial Vehicle Museum
Lesson: History
Class: Year 1 Year: 2021 - 2022
Year 1 have been learning about the invention of modern transportation during our topic - Planes, Trains and Automobiles. During the course of our investigations, we have discovered that many different types of transportation were invented in Europe. However, one of the questions the children wanted to know was - Was anything invented in Britain?
We investigated further and found out that in Leyland, a small town in the Northwest of England, there was a manufacture of buses and trucks. Leyland manufacturers played a really big role in the development of transportation in Britain and helped the British troops during both World Wars. Now, in the very spot were the manufactures stood, is a transportation museum. Year 1 decided to visit.
When we arrived were were allowed to explore the vehicles on display around the museum. We could't believe how big they were. We looked at what made it move (horse, steam or petrol) and we also managed to think of our science by exploring the different materials used to make the vehicles.
In the afternoon were were treated to an interactive story. Tiggi the tiger took us around the museum and explained the history of transportation to us and highlighted that transportation is still evolving today. What an amazing day!
